Broomsticks & Lace's Halloween Movie Guide

Happy Halloween!!!!

Many of you requested I fill you in on some of my favourite Halloween movies, and since it is the day of I figured what better time!

This list is especially for those of you, like me, prefer to stay home with a bottle of wine or a big bowl of caramel popcorn on Halloween and snuggle up (while responding to intermittent trick or treaters at the door!)

This list is also for those who prefer the sweeter, spookier, more fun-filled side of Halloween.  Ghosts, goblins, witches and vampires!  Sparkles and silliness, candy and cobwebs!

While I can enjoy a good horror or slasher flick, they just don't appeal to me on Halloween.  Halloween is about whimsy and childlike fun to me!

Therefore, about 95% of my list is family-friendly.  I am a child of the 90's so many of these films are classics of that era too!

Without further ado and in no particular order!

*It may go without saying but I must note that Sleepy Hollow is the only film on the list that is NOT family friendly

Many of you already know this, but Halloweentown is my absolute favourite!

I was also contacted by Derek Quint, who created the short film "Danse Macabre" to ask if I'd like to feature his film on my blog.  I watched it and thought it was delightful and campy and silly and adorable!  So if you are interested in any of that sort of thing then it is a perfect little Halloween treat!

I also wanted to announce the giveaway winners for my Halloween giveaway.

I am very ashamed to say that I had no idea that Something Wicked this Way Comes had been made into a movie. Thank you sooo much for the lesson. I shall delight in it as soon as I can--in the movie, and the lesson, too. ♥

I hope your All Hallow's Eve was full of blessings!

I love SWTWC, Sleepy Hollow and Practical Magic. I actually like the Practical Magic movie better than the book. Have you read Garden Spells? You might also like that.

I loved the original book of The Worst Witch as a kid, but the tv series did not exist back then, unfortunately!

Well, Sleepy Hollow and Practical Magic are on my all time favorites list, so I watch them all year 'round :) Unfortunately I'm a jaded movie buff and can't stand kid's movies anymore.

I haven't seen The Worst Witch in ages. I must watch it. I forgot about that one. My favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus. Halloweentown, the first one, is also another fave of mine! Thanks for sharing these! xoxo Jen

I confess that I can't watch a horror/slasher movie at all. Halloween #1 is as close as I've ever gotten. My daughter (at 20 years) loves them but ONLY if they have some kind of plot!! It takes a lot to make her jump because she loves to figure out what's coming next and then whisper it to the person sitting next to her, haha!

Thanks for your great list of movies! Many I don't know about and they would be so much fun to watch...I DO enjoy a kid-friendly movie that can be spooky without having blood baths! I have watched and enjoyed The Littlest Vampire. My all time favorite however is Nightmare Before Christmas, the songs are SO much fun!!

Danse Macabre was everything you said; campy, spooky and funny...really enjoyed it!

It was so nice to have you visit my little blog! It's good to keep in touch :)

Hehe, these are awesome, and some I had forgotten! I LOVED The Worst Witch when I was little! I was so excited when I found the DVD years later. I read those books too as an early reader. And can't not love Practical Magic and Hocus Pocus!
